cupping techniqueAt Casey Chiropractic, we emphasise the relief of joint and muscle pain using the principles of Chinese medicine. Whether you have headaches, backaches, or any other kind of discomfort, we work to address your pain using various traditional techniques. While we don’t prescribe Chinese herbs, we offer a range of other services to support your wellbeing.

How Is It Different From Western Medicine?

You may wonder how Chinese medicine and Western medicine differ. In Chinese medicine, the organs have an “energy” associated with them. Even if medical tests show the organ is functioning normally, the energy or “juice” in the organ may be depleted, similar to a car battery that is drained even though the battery itself is fine.

The goal of Chinese medicine is to invigorate the energy back in the organs and balance the yin and yang to help patients feel better, just as recharging a drained battery allows the car to function properly again.

Techniques We Use

Our approach to Chinese medicine includes several time-honoured methods:

  • Acupuncture: We use fine needles to stimulate acupoints along the body’s meridians, promoting energy flow and balance.
  • Tui Na: A form of medical massage, Tui Na uses hands-on techniques to relieve pain and improve circulation without the use of needles.
  • Fire Cupping: We offer both dry and wet cupping to enhance blood flow and alleviate muscle tension.
  • Moxibustion: This involves burning a combination of herbs near acupoints to warm and invigorate the body’s energy.

Your First Visit

Please bring any relevant medical records or imaging reports, such as X-rays or MRIs, to help the doctor better understand your condition. When you come for your first session, it lasts about an hour. We’ll spend the first 15 minutes on a thorough consultation, where we’ll check your pulse and tongue and ask about your health history. Based on this, we’ll decide on the best course of action to support your health. We may recommend acupuncture, cupping, or massage techniques.

Each follow-up session will also be about an hour to ensure continuous care.

Personalised Care

Everyone’s body is unique, so we tailor our approach to fit each individual’s needs. For example, while cucumber might be healthy in general, it could be too cold for someone with specific health concerns. Based on the principles of Chinese dietary therapy, we provide guidance on which foods might support your health.
